The app is compatible with the Apple Pencil and is a one-time purchase. While they aren't features you'll often use (or at all, really) for pixel art, Procreate also has a huge library of textured brushes, precise color controls, and stunning digital effects galore. But if you need more inspiration, use dedicated apps to find the best color schemes, matches, and palettes. Procreate will then make a custom palette of the colors in that image. Instead of creating your own color palettes, you can import an image from the Photos app. The most useful and unique function that Procreate provides to pixel artists is Palette Capture. You'll want to ensure you're only drawing with hard edges by either turning off anti-aliasing or limiting yourself to opaque brushes. A real eye-opener.With its long resume of features, it's likely that you will have to tinker with the brush settings panel. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment.
